How to choose the correct hairstyle for your face shape

If you find yourself asking what type of hairstyle does my face suit, look no further. You’ve decided to take the step into the unknown and switch up your hairstyle. This can be a great move if you want to completely shake up your look and give yourself a fabulous confidence boost. It’s amazing how much of a difference colour and a brand-new appearance can make, but’s worth taking the time to decide on how to choose a new style.

There are several factors to bear in mind when making a decision like this. As we all know that new haircuts don’t always go exactly as planned. As a hair stylist in Durham for over 15 years I have been able to give my clients the advice whether a hairstyle will suit them. If I feel a hairstyle will complement their face and lifestyle, I’m all for it. However, if not, then I will advise and recommend a hairstyle that I feel will suit the client.

5 Steps to decide whether a hairstyle will suit you.

Consider your face shape

How to tell your faceshape

One of the utter most important things you can do before deciding on a brand-new hairstyle is to consider your face shape. It’s a face that certain hairstyles look better and lend themselves to a specific face shape than others. It’s definitely taking a minute to think what you’ll look like with a new style. I have listed some face shapes below, with cuts that will compliment most.

Heart Shape Face

This shape looks great with medium and long length hair. If you have neither then these looks are easy to recreate using hair extensions. When thinking of ways to style it, think sweeping fringes and tousled curls to fully accentuate the shape.

Oval Face

If you’re going for a short style, it’s best to go for something a blunt or a strong lob. Medium and long hair also work with this face shape, whilst soft, vintage victory curl rolls really complete this type of look.

Round Faces

If having short hair is the only way to go for you, then don’t do it by halves. A pixie cut will look super slick and will help adding length to your face.

Square Face

A fringe in some shape or form really suits this face shape, either sweeping across the cheekbones or in short layers.

If you’re still unsure on what shape your face is, pop into your local hair salon in Durham and have a chat with a professional. I love giving consultations on new do’s in the Hair Salon in Durham that I am based at.
