If you have hair extensions and are looking for a few handy tips and tricks to help the longevity of them through lockdown, look no further. Tom William Maddison Hair a hair extension specialist for 15 years shares with us some techniques and advice on how to help cope through the current climate.

Throughout Tom’s extensive career in hair extensions – he has come across the good, the bad and the ugly! Looking after your hair will definitely help you out when it comes to visiting your much-loved salons and stylists once this is all over. However, making sure you maintain and look after your extensions is important during a time when you don’t have a professional to turn to.

With these small changes to your daily routine will make the difference to getting longevity out of your hair.

  1. Brushing

A correct brush is key when it comes to brushing your hair extensions. A wide paddled brush is the best when it comes to running through your bonds, tapes and beads. Hair extension brushes are widely available online, meaning you can stay safe at home whilst keeping your hair happy.

  1. Shampoo

We all shampoo our hair, but do you use the correct type of shampoo? Don’t use whatever is in your cupboards. Look for shampoos that are sulphate-free. Usually sulphates are what corrodes hair extension bonds.

  1. Braiding

You may or may not do this already, however make sure you brush and braid your hair before going to bed. Simply putting your hair up into a large plait will allow your hair to remain tangle free!

  1. Condition

When conditioning your hair, make sure to only use conditioner on the ends of your hair. Look for conditioners that are suited for coloured/ dry hair.

  1. Blow drying

Always blow dry your hair on a low heat, this method is better for the bonds and tapes. Also, fully dry the connection where your hair meets the hair extensions.
